Journalist Dale Goldhawk digs deep into Museum eviction story
Interview MP3s
Updated! AM740's own Mike Filey joins Dale Goldhawk the fight to save the Canadian Air and Space Museum and notes the historic value of the Museum building, slated for demolition. Their Dec. 21, 2011 discussion is now available below.
In a series of televised and broadcast interviews, Canadian journalist Dale Goldhawk discussed the story of the Canadian Air & Space Museum's eviction and Parc Downsview Park's plans for its home with parties from both sides of the debate.
Questions centered around the Museum's history, the building's disappearing heritage status, and the reasons behind PDP's move to replace the building with a hockey complex.
The first interview, which featured Museum Space Curator Rob Godwin, focused on the museum's perspective. What had happened? What was the Canadian Air & Space museum doing in response? Why is the building important?
The following night, Museum CEO Rob Cohen appeared on Goldhawk's evening live broadcast, RogersTV's Goldhawk Live. Appearing along with him was Toronto councillor Maria Augimeri and WWII veteran and lancaster pilot Philip Gray.
Thursday saw PDP Chairman David Soknacki take the hotseat. The former public servant defended his organisation's decision to evict the building's tenants. He maintained that the building would not be destroyed. The plan is, according to Soknacki, to repurpose the structure by maintaining "hundreds of feet" of the facade.
Finally, after a week of appearances, Canadian Air & Space Museum volunteer Chairman Ian McDougall responded to Soknacki's statements.
A full week of coverage was presented, with over 3 hours of discussion recorded and presented to the public. Much of the material is also available on the Zoomer radio website.
